I A M A LI 2017 I AM ALI FESTIVAL When Muhammad Ali passed away on June 3, 2016, the Louisville community came together to celebrate and pay respects to their hometown hero. In honor of the first anniversary of Muhammad’s passing, the Muhammad Ali Center collaborated with the Kentucky Expo Center, Ohiobasketball.com, the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Louisville Bats, the city of Louisville, and others to celebrate the impact of Muhammad Ali’s legacy, right here in The Champ’s hometown. From June 3rd thru July 15th, the “I Am Ali” Festival highlighted Ali’s Six Core Principles over six weeks of community events and programming. More than 40 local organizations participated in over 70 different events during the Festival, including Ali Appreciation Day at Slugger Field and two premier girls’ basketball tournament events held at the Kentucky Center, attracting 15,000 young people.
